Frenchman Lake - Campbell Highway, Yukon

8 & 9 July 2012

Just a quick trip to Frenchman Lake along the Campbell Highway with our niece, who was visiting from Vancouver Island.

I drove so no pictures of the drive on the North Klondike Highway. Take a look here to see those sights.

When we arrived at the lake, it was warm! Rather, it was Kodi-hot, meaning he just wanted to snooze in the sunshine. Happiness is...

In the afternoon, a neighbouring camper pointed out a Northern Flicker. This deserved the tripod, the parent birds were skittish, so I was able to stand away from my camera and take the shots with a remote shutter.

Just before 9 p.m. on the 8th, a gull found some lunch, likely a carcass tossed away by a fisherman.

The sun setting created some interesting colours as the gull wrestled with the carcass.

At 9 p.m. the sky was still bright.

On Monday we packed up to head home. While driving on the Campbell Highway we saw a bear, then saw a cyclist ahead of the bear. I pulled out the camera and took some shots out the window...

The bear noticed us coming up behind it, so quit chasing the cyclist

The cyclist likely had enough adrenalin to easily make it up the hill. He waved to us as we went by.

On the way home we headed up to Five Fingers Rapids to show our niece.
Then continued the drive home.
