There are numerous paths around the Million Dollar Falls Yukon gov't campground. This morning we enjoyed our dog walk around a small lake. The trail has some logs lying across it here and there, but these are easily bypassed or simple to step over.

A short while later it was time to head out.

Leaving on the campground road, looking eastward
The blue skies were cooperating ! The highway was quiet and we enjoyed meandering along.

Heading south along the Haines Highway
The highway's elevation continues to increase. Soon one feels they are on the mountaintops. The scenery is wonderful!

The Tatshenshini-Alsek Park is a very popular destination for world travellers. Many enjoy rafting on the Tatshenshini River or the Alsek River. The Tat flows into the Alsek deep in the mountains. In 2000, our rafting trip on the Alsek River was a once in a lifetime adventure!

Trees become more sparse as the elevation increases

One can see forever!

The views don't quit
Time for lunch so we pulled into a scenic gravel parking area along the highway.

As we were getting out of the truck, there was a loud clatter of noise! At first, I thought an old cackling witch was out to get us! We couldn't figure out what it was! The noises were in every direction and the source wasn't obvious! THEN we saw it ... a Willow Ptarmigan. Then we saw another, and another and another, and so it went!
These ptarmigan have the most amazing and comical vocalization! I chuckle thinking about it!
