Steve came home from an errand to tell me that the elk were back by the Alaska Highway. So I grabbed the camera and headed out...

Wapiti is another name for the elk, it means "white bum"
It was about 8:30 p.m. with the sun setting, so the colours are warm!

Pierced ears and a necklace (tags and collar) - #8-090
The elk shed the fur on their neck in spring. We've been finding elk hairs up to 5" long on our hiking trails. Their feet sure make a mess of the snowy trails too!

Pair of elk
The collars transmit a signal.

Collared elk

Elk - round tummy but boney hip

Good looking elk
Elk munching the vegetation along the ditch of the Alaska Highway...

Takhini elk herd along the Alaska Highway
I enjoy seeing the elk in the area. Good stuff!
