Haines Road km 107 to home on the Alaska Highway

8 May 2014 - Thursday

A nice night last night, not too chilly. Woke to some sunshine and the Willow Ptarmigan calling out.
After breakfast it was time for our dog walk. There are ground squirrels throughout this area.

This morning some of the female Willow Ptarmigan were out, but they seem shyer than the males.

This area is scenic with few trees blocking the view.

The female Willow Ptarmigan were whiter than the males. They'll change to a summer coat though.

We were on the road heading home by 9 a.m.

There is a great sign before Haines Junction, at a nicely paved rest area.

There seemed to be some smoke in the area around Haines Junction. We could smell it too.

South of Haines Junction there was a Mule Deer in the ditch. This is the first time we've seen a deer this far north and west in Yukon. It did not stay still for very long.
