Takhini elk herd along the Alaska Highway

 The morning dawned in an interesting way.

About 6:30 a.m.

This evening we drove to Haines Junction. We also drove into Champagne so our friend could understand that it wasn't similar to a Vancouver Island community. I have many memories of Champagne from when I was a kid and my friend heard all the stories!

After a superb meal at Haines Junction, we started the journey home at about 9 p.m. The skies were clearing -- the air was warm. Nearing home I noticed some odd shapes to the side of the highway. Didn't take long to realize what the shapes were!

It was wonderful to see this herd of about 60 animals munching. Also watched a female nurse her calf. The light was waning, so photographs were a challenge.

After a few minutes with the herd, we carried on home.
The setting sun highlighted the few clouds in the sky to the north.

Our friend wondered how we had arranged these wilderness scenes on his behalf!
He asked if it ever became "old". Nope. Nada. Never. Absolutely not!
