We arrived at Denali National Park late in the afternoon and were very fortunate to get a campsite at Riley Creek. The afternoon was pleasant, so we drove our vehicle as far as possible into the park without a pass.

We were in line the next day at 6 a.m. and obtained tickets on the 12:30 p.m. bus to Eielson Visitor Center. And we also managed to get bus tickets for 8 a.m. the following day to the end of the road near Wonder Lake. There was no camping available within the park for a few more days. These pictures are from the bus trip on September 8.

The information center provided some maps of decent day hikes, and also let us know which areas to avoid due to recent wolf-kills (wolves kill an animal and then return over a period of days to eat). We took the bus to one of the trails and started hiking.

In 1993 we headed south from Haines Junction YT to Haines Alaska. Before leaving Haines Junction I made sure we had a reservation to take the Alaska Ferry from Haines to Skagway AK, a short trip that was also very affordable.
