Sidney Lake to Rose River on the South Canol Road

14 August 2010 - Saturday

Another clear blue sky this morning, and more flat water on Sidney Lake. The loons were out early this morning, but in the distance.

The zoom lens did the job though!

It was tempting to stay another night, but our feet were getting itchy.
So we said our goodbyes to our new friends before they headed off for a paddle in their canoe.

There is a territorial campground at Quiet Lake. It was a long weekend in the Yukon so a couple of the sites were occupied. Quiet Lake is very large and scenic.

It was still early in the day so decided to carry on to see what the rest of the day would bring.
There is a lovely viewpoint of the lake at about km 90 with this info sign.

Stopped in at the campground/recreation site near km 98 at the north end of Quiet Lake. It was packed full! Certainly not the relaxing place we wanted to find for the night. So we carried on.

The Quiet Lake Maintenance Camp is literally just around the corner. There are some historical vehicles here too.

Will it continue to be active?

Steve was determined to see if he could get the truck going ...

In 2008 the bridge pictured below was washed out. That year we drove from Ross River to the bridge, just for something to do, overnighted at a lake, and then drove out again towards Ross River before heading to Watson Lake on the Campbell Highway.

The bridge looks new enough still, but I wonder if it isn't sagging a bit?

The gravel area was very soft! So we carried on northward.

Found one spot and walked in. The person there said he was from Whitehorse just hunting.
He invited us to share his campsite. After a quick chat we moved on.

At about km 112 there was a lovely spot near the Rose River.
Plenty of room for the fifth wheel and the fishing looked promising!

I love seeing REAL bumble bees!

Steve caught some nice grayling! It was a good dinner that night.
Too many bugs to sit out by the fire, so we made it an early night.
